Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
The website at osrsalch.net (the "Site"), a free High Alch Profit calculator for Old School RuneScape, is operated by Theoatrix of Australia ("OSRS Alch", "we", "us" or "our"). This policy is written to meet our obligations, and describe our practices, under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), whether or not those obligations formally apply to a business of our size.
2. What we collect
The Site has no user accounts, no login, and no forms that ask for your name, email address, or any other personal information. The information we handle is limited to:
| Information | Source | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Standard web server/hosting logs — e.g. IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, referring site, date/time, approximate location derived from IP | Automatically generated by our hosting/CDN provider whenever any page is requested | Security (e.g. detecting abuse), diagnosing errors, and understanding aggregate traffic to the Site |
| Anything you email us or otherwise send us directly — e.g. your email address and message content | You, if you choose to contact us | Responding to your enquiry, bug report or feedback |
We do not currently run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this Site. If that changes, we will only use privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics (such as aggregated, non-identifying page-view counts) and will update this section first.
3. Local storage (your filters)
To make the leaderboard convenient to use, your browser's own local storage remembers your last-used filters — search term, min/max price, buy limit, minimum profit, and any custom nature rune price you've entered — purely on your own device. This information:
- is never transmitted to any OSRS Alch server;
- stays on your device only, tied to your browser; and
- can be cleared at any time via the Site's own "Reset filters" button, or through your browser's settings.
The "Export CSV" feature works the same way: the file is generated entirely inside your browser from data already on the page and saved directly to your device — it is never uploaded anywhere.
4. Cookies
OSRS Alch doesn't use accounts or a shopping cart, so it doesn't need to set cookies to function, and it doesn't set any tracking or advertising cookies. Local storage (see section 3) is not a cookie — it is never sent back to a server automatically the way a cookie is.
5. How we use information
We only use the limited information described in section 2 to:
- operate, maintain and secure the Site;
- diagnose technical problems and improve performance;
- understand aggregate, non-identifying usage of the Site; and
- respond to enquiries or support requests you send us.
We do not use any information we collect for direct marketing, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone.
6. Disclosure to third parties
We don't share, sell or disclose personal information to third parties for their own use. The only party who may incidentally process the limited server-log information described above is our website hosting/CDN provider, acting solely to deliver the Site to your browser.
7. Where our price data comes from
The item prices, high alch values, buy limits and icons shown on the Site are crawled by us, on our own schedule, from the OSRS Wiki's public real-time price API and image files — this is public Old School RuneScape game data, not personal information about you or any other visitor. Your browser never queries the wiki directly; it only ever reads the snapshot we've already crawled and published on this Site.
8. Overseas disclosure
Our hosting/CDN provider may operate infrastructure in other countries, which means the server-log information in section 2 could be processed on servers located outside Australia as an ordinary part of delivering a website over the internet. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers with appropriate security practices.
9. Data security
The Site is served over HTTPS to protect data in transit. Because the Site holds no accounts and no personal profile data server-side, there is very little for a breach of "our" systems to expose beyond ordinary server logs. You're responsible for the security of your own device and browser, including any local storage saved by the Site.
10. Access, correction and complaints
Because we don't hold accounts or personal profiles, there is generally no personal information about you for us to give you access to or correct, beyond messages you've sent us directly (which you can ask us to access, correct or delete at any time — see contact details below).
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below so we can try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
11. Children's privacy
OSRS Alch is a general-purpose tool not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we add an optional feature that changes what data is handled. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version. Continuing to use the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
